Cayley, 16, is currently studying Year 11 at Moriah College. She is an active member of her school’s Social Action Committee, raising awareness of issues relevant to youth. Her interests include ensuring that youth entering the workforce are aware of their rights and obligations, and increasing awareness of services available to young people. Cayley identifies ‘facilitating dialogue to promote harmony between people of different faiths and cultures’ as the most important issue for the Australian Government in relation to youth.

Merindah Donnelly

Merindah Donnelly
Merindah, 23, is currently in her 2nd year of a Bachelor of Arts/Commerce degree at the University of New South Wales and working full-time as a Manager with Bloch. Merindah grew up in Tingah. She is passionate about Indigenous and Aboriginal education awareness. Merindah identifies ‘education/HSC for Indigenous students’ as the most important issue for the Australian Government in relation to youth.

Kirby Drew

Kirby Drew
Kirby, 23, is currently in her 3rd year of a Bachelor of Primary Education at the Southern Cross University and is actively involved in her local community and is an advocate on youth issues. She is currently seeking youth work on a part-time basis. Kirby identifies ‘youth participation’ as the most important issue for the Australian Government in relation to youth.

Michael Galluzzo

Michael Galluzzo
Michael, 20, is studying at the Australian National University (ANU) in Canberra for a degree in Arts/Law. Michael is the Indigenous Convener of ReconciliACTion and the Indigenous Officer of the ANU. He is involved at a local level with the Narrandera Shire Council. Michael was a member of the National Indigenous Youth Leadership Group (NIYLG) 2005-06 and is interested in the restoration and promotion of traditional language and culture.

Samah Hadid

Samah Hadid
Samah, 18, currently in her 2nd year of a Bachelor of Economics and Social Sciences at the University of Sydney. Samah identifies ‘youth participation and community engagement’ particularly among Indigenous and culturally and linguistically diverse youth as one of the most important issue for the Australian Government in relation to youth.

Travis Holland

Travis Holland
Travis, 20, is currently studying at the University of Canberra for a Bachelor of Sports Management. He is particularly interested in mental health issues. Travis identifies ‘ensuring respect and cooperation between young people and the wider community’ as the most important issue for the Australian Government in relation to youth.

Serena Kent

Serena Kent
Serena, 21, is currently completing her Diploma of Community Services and also runs her own business, a freelance youth and community development service. She is passionate about rural communities, enterprise, youth participation and making a big picture difference for young people. Serena was a member of the National Youth Roundtable 2005-06.

Esi Louis

Esi Louis
Esi, 21, is currently in her second year at the Australian Catholic University studying Theology and Social Work. She also works as a casual office assistant. She identifies ‘some migrant youth dropping out of school and not reaching their full potential or utilising all the services available to them’ as the most important issue for the Australian Government in relation to youth.

Patsy Nai

Patsy Nai
Patsy, 20, is currently in her 3rd year of a Bachelor in Medical Science at the University of New South Wales and also works part-time as a receptionist at Mercedes Benz-Airport Express. Patsy identifies ‘education at all levels’ as the most important issue for the Australian Government in relation to youth.

Thuy Nguyen

Thuy Nguyen
Thuy, 19, is in her final year at the University of New South Wales completing a Bachelor of Commerce, majoring in Business Law and Management. She is the Vice-President of GDPT HQ and the Vice-Chairperson on the Bankstown Youth Advisory Committee. Thuy identifies ‘youth unemployment – skilled and unskilled issues’ as the most important issue for the Australian Government in relation to youth.

James Orchiston

James Orchiston
James, 20, is currently completing his degree in Communications at the University of Technology Sydney where he is majoring in political and sociological studies. He also works for a Federal Member of Parliament. James is involved in a range of local community projects and is interested in education, homophobia and youth engagement in the political process. James was a member of the National Youth Roundtable 2005-06.

Chris, 19, is currently studying for a Certificate IV in Youth Work from Australian National College and works full time at Youth Off The Streets. Chris identifies ‘drugs and alcohol’ as the most important issue for the Australian Government in relation to youth

Gabe, 21, has a tertiary education. He works casually at Wollongong Youth Services and ABC Radio. Gabe identifies ‘representative engagement’ as the most important issue for the Australian Government in relation to youth.

Daniel Bourchier

Daniel Bourchier
Daniel, 21, recently completed a journalism-traineeship at the Tennant and District Times and is currently studying Law at Charles Darwin University. He is working towards a career in the dramatic arts, foreign affairs, media or politics. Daniel identifies ‘across the board empowerment of young people’ as the most important issue for the Australian Government in relation to youth.

Kat, 23, is working part-time with Northern Territory Aids and Hepatitis Council in the needle and syringe program. She is a member of the YBBlue crew – Beyondblue’s youth depression initiative. She identifies ‘youth health’ as the most important issue for the Australian Government in relation to youth.

Camille, 24, works in international marketing and finance at Charles Darwin University and is currently studying a Bachelor of Business degree part-time. Camille was a member of the National Indigenous Youth Leadership Group (NIYLG) 2005-06 and is interested in Indigenous issues, specifically around education and health issues.

Jessica, 16, is currently in Year 11 at Shepardson College Elcho Island in North East Arnhem Land. Jessica identifies ‘not enough youth activities on Elcho Island’ as the most important issue for the Australian Government in relation to youth.

Felix, 24, is currently undertaking university studies in Training and Development. Felix identifies ‘mental health for young people, especially suicide and mental health in rural communities’ as the most important issue for the Australian Government in relation to youth.

Robyn, 23, is working part-time as the Coordinator of Rural Co-Pilots for Northern Tasmania Development and part-time as a Sexual Assault On Call Crisis Worker for Laurel House. Robyn identifies ‘provision of youth support service to rural areas’ as the most important issue for the Australian Government in relation to youth.

Allison Rickards

Allison, 24, is a JPET case manager and mother of one. She works for Colony 47 Inc and is also currently completing Certificate IV in Youth Work. She has a strong commitment to supporting young people who are marginalised from mainstream society and is particularly interested in how family breakdown affects this. Allison identifies ‘affordable and accessible accommodation’ as the most important issue for the Australian government in relation to youth.

Moses, 19, is currently working full-time as an Exhibitions Officer for Mangkaja Arts. He identifies ‘the impact that drug and alcohol abuse has on culture’ as the most important issue for the Australian Government in relation to youth.

TJ, 21, is currently working as the Manager of Youth Programs at Eastern Goldfields YMCA. He identifies ‘the establishment of a strong social, cultural and personal identity’ as the most important issue for the Australian Government in relation to youth.

Susan Harch

Susan Harch
Susan, 22, is studying a Bachelor Medicine/Surgery at Monash University and is currently undertaking research in Pathology (BMedSicHons). With personal and professional experience in both rural and metropolitan areas, she is interested in health promotion and primary healthcare, particularly Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health. Susan was a member of the National Youth Roundtable 2005-06.

Catherine Maher

Catherine, 16, is currently in Year 11 at Loreto College. She regularly tutors Sudanese refugees in Saint Albans. Catherine identifies ‘attracting and retaining youth to rural areas, health promotion, education, opportunities and homeless youth living on the streets’ as the most important issue for the Australian Government in relation to youth.

John, 20, is working part-time as a charity collector for the Arthritis Foundation of Victoria. John identifies ‘employment / education and training’ as the most important issue for the Australian Government in relation to youth.

Talis, 18, is currently studying a Bachelor of Tourism and Hospitality Management at the University of South Australia and works part-time at the Arkaba Hotel. He is a member of the Young Liberals. Talis identifies ‘healthcare services’ as the most important issue for the Australian Government in relation to youth.

Anna, 23, works for the Services to Youth Council as a JPET project officer. She assists young people to get involved in their community, education, employment and to obtain a safe stable place to live. Anna is passionate about assisting young people to reach their full potential and overcome any barriers that stops them from reaching their dreams. Anna was a member of the National Youth Roundtable 2005-06.

Brett Morris

Brett Morris
Brett, 23, is currently studying Certificate III in Youth Work at TAFE, is going to start a Certificate IV shortly and is working as an employment coordinator at Murray Bridge for Finding Workable Solutions Inc. Brett identifies ‘reduction in suicide and self harm and other social issues associated with boredom and employment issues in rural areas’ as the most important issue for the Australian Government in relation to youth.

Bree, 20, works full-time as a Trainee in field work for the Queensland Parks and Wildlife. Bree identifies ‘more easily accessible facilities and support e.g. youth workers, health care, and councillors’ as the most important issue for the Australian Government in relation to youth.

Naomi, 21, volunteers as Queensland Communications Division Leader for the Oaktree Foundation and works in marketing and public relations within the Queensland Government. She identifies ‘making opportunities accessible for young people though youth mobilisation, engagement, empowerment and education’ as the most important issue for the Australian Government in relation to youth.

Kelly, 20, is currently in her 1st year of a Bachelor of Social Work. Kelly identifies ‘issues surrounding Young People on Child Protection Orders and those living without family support’ as the most important issue for the Australian Government in relation to youth.

Matt, 17, is currently undertaking Year 12. Matt identifies ‘mental health’ as the most important issue for the Australian government in relation to youth, in particular the stigma attached to it and the mental health and wellbeing of young males.

Lauren Johnston

Lauren Johnston
Lauren, 24, is currently working as a Researcher/Analyst in Indigenous Education Reform for Cape York Partnerships. She has a number of tertiary qualifications, most notably a Master of Arts (International Communications). She identifies ‘increased youth involvement in setting and driving government agendas’ as the most important issue for the Australian government in relation to youth.

Nicole, 19, is studying for a Bachelor of Social Science and Arts at the University of Queensland and works as a pharmacy assistant. Nicole identifies ‘mental health’ as the most important issue for the Australian Government in relation to youth.

Rosemary Tabuai

Rosemary Tabuai
Rosemary, 17, is currently studying a Bachelor of Law at James Cook University in Cairns. She is the 2007 Youth Citizen of the Year for Cairns and is seen as a positive role model to Indigenous youth within the Cairns community. Rosemary identifies ‘improving the lives of disadvantaged Indigenous youth and youth affected by domestic violence’ as the most important issue for the Australian Government in relation to youth.
