Young Australian of the Year nominations

Nominate a young person who makes you proud!
Recently Prime Minister John Howard launched the call for nominations for the 2007 Australian of the Year Awards.
The Australian of the Year Awards recognises and celebrates the achievements of some of Australia’s top citizens.
The awards are based on nominations made by the public, so it’s up to all Australians to nominate who they think should be considered for the awards before nominations close on 28 August.
You can nominate a great young Australian online now at www.australianoftheyear.gov.au or call
1300 655 193 for more information.
Has your school got what it takes to be an Australian Sustainable School?

Do you want to protect Australian environments for the future and be involved in the development of a culture of sustainability, where you and your teachers can help improve your school’s environment?
The Australian Sustainable Schools Initiative (AuSSI) is designed to generate and support the vision of a generation of young people who integrate sustainability into their every day lives.
AuSSI involves students in schools, their wider school communities and the education system in a new way of thinking. AuSSI encourages life-long learning and empowers students to become more sustainable.
AuSSI is an Australian Government initiative in partnership with state and territory education and environment agencies. It involves a real-life approach to sustainability with measurable environmental, financial, educational and social outcomes.

Want to do stuff you don't do in normal life?

- Want to learn how to sail and navigate?
- Abseil and survive in the bush?
- Or fly and glide?
Then join the Australian Defence Force Cadets.
The Australian Defence Force Cadets is a youth development organisation where you take part in unique adventurous activities in a military-like setting and get the chance to meet Service men and women.
As a Navy, Army or Air Force cadet you'll learn -
- Teamwork and citizenship
- Public speaking and leadership
- Safe weapons handling
- Field craft
- First aid
- Drill and ceremonial
You will also learn Service-specific skills, depending on the cadet organisation you join.
For many young Australians, joining cadets is the first step towards a career in the permanent or reserve forces. Cadets who pursue non-military careers also gain skills that set them up for life.
The Australian Defence Force Cadets is funded by the Australian Government through the Department of Defence.
